During the rule of the Russian Empire Gatchina was an elite suburb of St. Petersburg, and now Has become the most important center of science. Located near Saint-Petersburg Nuclear Physics Institute (PNPI) developed social and transport infrastructure that have become an important argument for the choice of this city as the site for the largest Russian innovation and technology park.
Nano Park Gatchina was created by Leningrad region initiative and is targeted to work with small & medium innovative enterprises and high technology production in sphere of nanomaterials, Nano electronics, biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, medicine & radiation industry
The project is partly associated with ROSNANO through NorthWest Technology Transfer Center.

At the beginning of cooperation Leningrad Region Innovative Development Agency joined forces with Lenoblinnovation Ltd. To work through the future concept of the project. Combining greenfield & brownfield features Nanopark Gathina should various residents with orientation on Research & Development and production in field of nanomaterials. The idea was to gather the synergy effect by cooperation of R&D field with effective production capabilities to obtain mutual advantages.
The aim of the project - to create a brand for science-industrial park that carries out the work on the frontline in implementation of innovative developments to business and social sphere collaborating with major science center in both Russian Federation and foreign partners.
Brandson agency started from a complex research to cover all the key questions concerning the structure and special features of the project, future pool of residents, mechanics of their attraction and startup commercialization. Caring out significant number if expert interviews with members of Association of Industrial Parks (AIP), experts & consultants and top-managers of scientific-industrial enterprises we gathered deep understanding of Nano industry. Strategic session with brand ideology and project leaders expanded our knowledge in institutional modeling of innovational development and helped us to develop strategic concept vectors.

In terms of contemporary insertion of Russian economy most successful projects to be industrial parks - both Greenfields and brownfields. Nano park first concept was to become a complex techno park - property complex, which combines the scientific
research institutes, industry facilities, business center and exhibition space. Techno park aim is to simplify the creation and growth of innovative companies by means of incubation processes and separation processes new companies (the so-called spin-offs) from existing ones.
Techno parks proved to have a more elite image compared to industrial parks due to their importance to innovative economy. On the other side these projects require more investments and their concepts should be significantly thought through. Nano park conceived the creation of the laboratory and business incubator, and one of the key residents was planned to be North-West Centre for Technology Transfer.
